FOSP Statement on Service Cuts

The Friends of Sherbrook Pool is deeply disappointed in The City of Winnipeg’s recently announced potential service cuts for the people of Winnipeg. Possible plans include shutting down city pools, with the Kinsmen Sherbrook Pool specifically listed as a candidate for closure.

This announcement, while preliminary, is extremely upsetting for the Friends of Sherbrook Pool. Since the pool was reopened in 2017, we have seen countless families receive free swimming lessons through our KidSwim program and provided a safe place to other members of the Winnipeg community through weekly women’s only swim sessions and ground-breaking Trans/2-Spirit/Non-Binary swim events. We will continue to provide these services and remain committed to improving, not reducing, community access.

The West End and Central neighbourhoods have fought hard to keep the Kinsmen Sherbrook Pool open and will continue to rally in support of this essential community resource.  Despite this unfortunate news, the Friends of Sherbrook Pool remains committed to advocating for the preservation of the pool as a pillar of Winnipeg, proudly serving members of the community.
